Portrait of the Grasslands: A New Take on the Familiar

Our Grasslands concert is the product of an artist residency that we did in September 2015, where we spent two weeks in Val Marie, Saskatchewan. This small southern town is at the frontier of the Grasslands National Park – 900 square kilometres of bison, badlands, and breathtaking vastness. Without having spent much time in the prairies before, we approached them with the expectation of beauty. The locals know that the prairies aren’t just flat! By spending time in the community and with the land, we combined our visual and musical experience into an exploration of what it means to take beauty seriously, every day.
